Who He Is
Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., born October 20, 1971, in Long Beach, California, is the rapper, media personality, and businessman known as Snoop Dogg. His career began in 1992 when Dr. Dre discovered him through a demo tape passed along by Warren G. Snoop appeared on Dre’s landmark album The Chronic, then released his own debut Doggystyle in 1993 under Death Row Records, it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold over 11 million copies worldwide. He has since released 20 studio albums, appeared in over 80 films and television shows, and in 2022 completed one of the most symbolically charged business moves in rap history: acquiring Death Row Records, the label that launched him and is now his. His investment portfolio includes cannabis venture capital firm Casa Verde Capital, early stakes in Reddit and Klarna, and the food brand Broadus Foods. At the 2024 Paris Olympics he served as NBC’s correspondent, reportedly earning $10 million for the Games.
1. Music Career Earnings (1992-2026)
Snoop has released 20 studio albums across three decades. Doggystyle is by far his most commercially successful, 11 million copies worldwide. The Death Row years (1993-1996) generated large gross sales but minimal net income to Snoop given the label’s well-documented payment practices. Post-2000 recording income improved but on a much smaller commercial scale. His 2022 tour grossed approximately $73.7 million. Feature verse fees run $75,000-$250,000 per appearance; he has hundreds of documented features.
Gross music income (recordings, touring, features) across the full career: approximately $130 million. Snoop is a California resident, approximately 42% effective combined rate. After taxes and 15% representation: net approximately $55 million.
2. Endorsements and Media (1993-2026)
Snoop has executed over 70 brand campaigns including Skechers, Corona, Dunkin’, BIC, Just Eat (£5.3 million UK deal documented), and the 2024 Paris Olympics NBC correspondent role (~$10 million). Gross endorsement and media income across the full career: approximately $85 million. After California taxes and 15% management: net approximately $37 million.
3. Death Row Records
In February 2022, Snoop acquired Death Row Records from MNRK Music Group for an estimated $50 million. He subsequently secured the label’s master recordings catalog. The business now generates estimated $15 million per year from catalog licensing, merchandise, NFTs, and new releases. Current enterprise value: $65 million (acquisition cost plus operational value built since purchase). Net contribution to Snoop’s waterfall: $65M enterprise value minus $50M acquisition cost = $15 million net.
4. Casa Verde Capital
In 2015, Snoop co-founded Casa Verde Capital, one of the first institutional cannabis venture capital firms. By 2025 the portfolio under management is estimated at $300 million. Snoop’s personal economic interest as anchor name and limited partner: estimated 10-15% of portfolio value. At $300 million AUM and 12% personal interest: approximately $36 million in unrealized value.
5. Tech Investments
Early-stage angel positions in Reddit (IPO 2024, valued ~$13B) and Klarna. Stake sizes are not publicly disclosed; these were angel positions, not institutional stakes. Estimated realized and unrealized gains: approximately $12 million.
6. Real Estate
Snoop’s real estate footprint is genuinely modest. Primary residence in Diamond Bar, California (bought 1998 for $720,000, estimated current value $2.2 million). Property in Douglasville, Georgia ($458,000 in 2021). Beach City Music Complex in Inglewood (recording/production facility). Several small Southern California investment properties. Total real estate appreciation gain: approximately $3 million.
7. Wealth Management
None reported. Snoop’s documented investment gains from specific positions (Casa Verde, Reddit, Klarna) are captured in the lines above. His spending history and lifestyle do not suggest meaningful undeployed surplus compounding passively over time.
8. Lifestyle Burn
Consumed spending only, property purchases and investments excluded.
- Early phase (1993-2002): $500K/year x 10 years = $5 million
- Mid phase (2003-2015): $900K/year x 12 years = $10.8 million
- Peak phase (2016-2026): $1.5M/year x 10 years = $15 million
- Legal costs (1993 murder charge defense and decades of ongoing legal matters): $6 million
- Personal entourage and staff over full career: $10 million
Total lifestyle burn: approximately $47 million.

Why Our Figure Differs From Consensus
Our math produces $150 million. The widely cited $160 million comes partly from counting Casa Verde’s $300 million AUM as Snoop’s net worth, it is not. His personal economic interest at approximately 12% is $36 million. We also net Death Row against its $50 million acquisition cost rather than counting it as a free asset, and we include no generic wealth management line. The unrealized upside line in our waterfall is explicit and defended: it reflects additional value in Casa Verde and the tech positions beyond what we can confirm at current carrying values, not a rounding trick.
The Circle Completed
Snoop Dogg signed to Death Row Records in 1993 as a 21-year-old from Long Beach who controlled nothing about his own professional life. The label’s founder Suge Knight was famous for his methods of persuasion and his methods of compensation, neither of which worked in artists’ favor. Snoop left in 1996 and spent the next quarter-century building his own infrastructure, his own brands, and his own investment thesis. In 2022, he bought the label. He now owns the masters, the trademark, and the legacy he was not allowed to own the first time around. In hip-hop, the receipts always come eventually, it just sometimes takes 26 years to collect them.
