$500 Million
WHO HE IS
Born January 7, 1985 in Stevenage, England, Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton is the most successful Formula 1 driver in the history of the sport. The son of a Black father from Grenada and a White English mother, he grew up on a council estate where his father worked four jobs to fund his karting career. He became the first Black driver in Formula 1 history, debuted with McLaren in 2007, and went on to win seven World Championships. He holds the all-time records for race wins (103), pole positions (104), and podium finishes (202). In 2025 he made the most shocking transfer in modern F1 history by leaving Mercedes after 12 seasons to join Ferrari, fulfilling a childhood dream of driving in red. At 41 he is the wealthiest active racing driver in history and the only Formula 1 driver who has successfully built a major business empire away from the sport.
1. FORMULA 1 SALARY
Hamilton’s salary trajectory across three teams shows one of the most dramatic earning escalations in motorsport history.
| Period | Team | Annual Salary | Total |

| 2007 (rookie) | McLaren | ~$1M | ~$1M |
| 2008-2012 | McLaren | ~$15-20M/yr avg | ~$90M |
| 2013-2015 | Mercedes | $25M/yr | ~$75M |
| 2016-2018 | Mercedes | $40M/yr | ~$120M |
| 2019-2020 | Mercedes | ~$53M/yr | ~$106M |

The Ferrari deal: Hamilton’s Ferrari contract starting 2025 reportedly pays a base salary of approximately $60M per year, with performance bonuses pushing total on-track compensation toward $70-80M annually. The deal runs 2025-2026 with an option for a third year in 2027. When signed in February 2024 the news sent Ferrari’s stock up 13% on the NYSE, adding approximately $6 billion to the company’s valuation in a single day. The contract also reportedly includes a clause directing 25% of certain salary components to Hamilton’s Mission 44 charitable foundation.
Tax situation, the Monaco advantage: Hamilton is a Monaco resident, which is the single most important financial decision of his career. Monaco has zero personal income tax on most income. UK residents would pay 45% tax plus National Insurance, meaning Monaco saves Hamilton an estimated $27 million per year in taxes compared to staying in England. Over his career this represents approximately $300M+ in saved taxes. He also maintains apartments in Switzerland (Nyon) and a Colorado estate for racing logistics and lifestyle.
| Period | Gross | Effective Tax (Monaco) | After Tax |
|---|---|---|---|
| Career total | ~$690M | ~5-10% | ~$640M |
2. ENDORSEMENTS AND BRAND DEALS
Hamilton earns approximately $30-40 million per year from endorsements, making him by far the most commercially valuable driver in Formula 1.
Tommy Hilfiger is his longest-running partnership, with the TOMMYXLEWIS collaboration line generating royalties on top of standard ambassador fees. Monster Energy has been on his racing kit for years and reportedly pays him $20-25M per year. IWC Schaffhausen for luxury watches and Dior for fashion add prestige value. More recent partnerships include Lululemon (with a custom clothing line), Perplexity AI, Rimowa luggage, Sony and Puma. He has notably declined deals that conflict with his public positions on sustainability and social justice.
| Period | Annual Endorsements | Years | Gross Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2007-2014 | ~$10M/yr | 8 years | ~$80M |
| 2015-2020 | ~$25M/yr | 6 years | ~$150M |
| 2021-2026 | ~$35M/yr | 6 years | ~$210M |
| Total gross | ~$440M |
After Monaco tax (effectively ~5%): ~$418M net
3. THE BUSINESS EMPIRE
In September 2025 Hamilton rebranded his commercial holding vehicle from Project 44 to Lewis Hamilton Ventures, consolidating his entire portfolio under a single corporate structure.
Denver Broncos Ownership Stake In 2022 Hamilton joined the Walton-Penner ownership group that acquired the Denver Broncos NFL franchise for $4.65 billion, the highest price ever paid for a North American sports team at the time. His minority stake is estimated at approximately $15-25M based on reported investment levels. The Broncos have since appreciated in value to approximately $7B, making this a strong investment.
Dawn Apollo Films and the F1 Movie Hamilton co-produced the 2025 F1 movie starring Brad Pitt alongside Jerry Bruckheimer. The film grossed over $633 million globally, becoming the highest-grossing auto racing film of all time. A sequel was greenlit in February 2026. His producer share is undisclosed but likely $10-20M+.
Almave His non-alcoholic agave spirit brand launched in partnership with industry giant Pernod Ricard, targeting the rapidly growing zero-proof spirits market.
Plus 44 His own streetwear and lifestyle brand, plus a co-ownership stake in W Magazine acquired in 2023.
X44 Vida Carbon Racing His Extreme E electric off-road racing team competing in the climate-focused championship.
Ferrari/Exor Joint Investment Fund As part of his Ferrari contract, Hamilton is linked to a joint investment fund through Ferrari’s parent company Exor, reportedly valued at $272 million. Hamilton’s personal share is undisclosed but represents significant additional wealth exposure.
Other Investments Through Lewis Hamilton Ventures he holds stakes in fashion (Tommy Hilfiger collaboration royalties), film (Dawn Apollo Films catalog), spirits (Almave equity), media (W Magazine), and various technology companies.
4. OTHER ASSETS
Hamilton owns a real estate portfolio reportedly worth $100M+ across Monaco, Manhattan, London, Colorado and Geneva. Per our methodology we exclude real estate from net worth calculations unless sold for profit. His car collection alone is valued at over $40M and includes a 1995 McLaren F1 estimated at $20M, a Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta at $4.1M and a Mercedes-AMG One at $2.7M.
RICHPEEK ESTIMATE: $500 Million

|---|---|
| F1 Salary (Monaco resident) | ~$640M |
| Endorsements | ~$418M |
| Denver Broncos stake | ~$20M |
| Dawn Apollo Films | ~$15M |
| Almave, Plus 44, other ventures | ~$30M |
| Exor investment fund exposure | ~$50M |
| Lifestyle, charity (Mission 44), expenses (-55%) | -$650M |

We land at $500 million, the middle ground between Finance Monthly’s $550M and the range of $450-500M cited by most other credible sources including Forbes and the Sunday Times Rich List. He remains the wealthiest active F1 driver in history by a comfortable margin.
The Monaco advantage in numbers: Hamilton’s decision to base himself in Monaco from 2012 onwards has been worth approximately $300 million over his career. Had he remained a UK tax resident he would have paid roughly 45% on his career earnings versus the near-zero rate he enjoys in Monaco. This single financial decision has been more valuable to his net worth than his entire McLaren career salary combined.
