WHO HE IS
Chris Hemsworth, born August 11, 1983, in Melbourne, Australia, is an Australian actor best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe across more than a decade of films. He got his start on the Australian soap opera Home and Away before moving to Los Angeles in 2007, and he broke through globally with Thor in 2011, going on to anchor Avengers ensemble films that became some of the highest grossing movies ever made. Outside the MCU, he has starred in Rush, Snow White and the Huntsman, Extraction, and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and founded the fitness platform Centr in 2019. He has been married to Spanish actress Elsa Pataky since 2010, and the couple have three children. The family splits its time between a purpose built estate in Byron Bay, Australia, and Los Angeles.
1. Film Career
Hemsworth’s earnings track a steady climb from soap opera wages to Marvel’s biggest ensemble paydays, followed by a diversification into non Marvel blockbusters and streaming.
- Australian TV and early Hollywood bit parts, Home and Away through Star Trek (2004 to 2010): ~$2M
- Thor debut and franchise ramp up, Thor through The Avengers (2011 to 2012): ~$8M, including a reported $150,000 for his first Thor film
- Rush and Thor: The Dark World (2013): ~$58M, a figure covering the two productions together
- Forbes tracked earning year (2014): ~$37M
- Avengers: Age of Ultron and related projects (2015): ~$7M
- Forbes tracked earning year, Thor: Ragnarok build up (June 2016 to June 2017): ~$31M
- Forbes tracked earning year, Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War (June 2017 to June 2018): ~$65M
- Forbes tracked earning year, Avengers: Endgame (June 2018 to June 2019), 24th on Forbes’ global highest paid celebrities list: ~$76M
- Men in Black: International, Extraction, Thor: Love and Thunder (2019 to 2022): ~$50M
- Extraction 2 (2023): ~$20M, independently reported
- Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Transformers One voice role, and other recent projects (2024 to 2026): ~$25M
Film career earnings, 2004 to 2026: ~$379M.
2. Endorsements
Hemsworth has run a real, multi-year run of global brand deals rather than a single signature campaign. He became a TAG Heuer ambassador in 2015, in a deal reported to be worth up to $1.3M a year, and has also fronted Hugo Boss, Audi, Lexus, Dr Pepper, and American Express campaigns over the course of his fame.
Endorsement income (estimated across a decade of documented brand deals): ~$20M.
3. Business Ventures: Held Equity
Centr. Hemsworth founded Centr in 2019 as a subscription fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness app, building it to more than 200,000 paying subscribers before HighPost Capital, the private equity firm co-founded by Mark Bezos, acquired it in March 2022 and merged it with equipment maker Inspire Fitness. The combined company was valued at more than $200M including debt, and Hemsworth did not fully cash out. He rolled a significant portion of his equity into the merged entity and is confirmed as its second largest shareholder behind HighPost itself, giving him ongoing upside as the business expands through Walmart and HYROX retail partnerships. With HighPost holding the controlling stake and Inspire’s prior owners also rolling over equity, we estimate Hemsworth’s remaining share at roughly 15 percent of the combined $200M valuation.
Business equity held: ~$30M.
Wild State. Hemsworth co-founded this production company with longtime producing partner Ben Grayson in 2022. The banner holds a first-look deal with National Geographic for unscripted programming, produced Extraction 2 and the upcoming Extraction 3, and struck a scripted partnership with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity in 2023. No financing round or sale price has ever been disclosed for Wild State, unlike the clear $100M RedBird backing behind Artists Equity, so there is no hard transaction to point to. Comparable talent-owned production shingles carrying one hit franchise and multiple first-look deals but no outside institutional capital have been valued in the tens of millions in past industry transactions. Using that comparison, we estimate Wild State’s overall value at roughly $50M, with Hemsworth, as the on-camera draw whose name anchors the Nat Geo, Amazon, and Artists Equity deals, holding the larger share of that against co-founder Ben Grayson, estimated at 60 percent.
Wild State, estimated 60% stake in an estimated $50M valuation: ~$30M.
4. Representation
Representation across film and endorsement earnings, covering agent, manager, and legal fees, is applied at a blended 13 percent, standard for a full Hollywood team.
Representation (13% blended on $399M combined film and endorsement gross): -$51.87M.
5. Tax
Hemsworth has been an Australian tax resident throughout his career, based first around Melbourne and now at his Byron Bay estate in New South Wales. Australia’s top marginal rate sits at 47 percent including the Medicare levy, and unlike the US loan-out system, Australian anti-avoidance rules limit how far personal services income can be diverted into a lower taxed company structure. We apply a 45 percent effective rate to reflect that limited mitigation.
Tax (45% effective on $347.13M post-representation income): -$156.21M.
6. Lifestyle Burn
Hemsworth’s spending has scaled with his fame, from a modest pre-Thor budget to a large family compound and international lifestyle at the peak of Marvel earnings.
- Pre-fame years, Home and Away wages (2004 to 2010, 7 years): ~$150K/yr consumed = $1.05M
- Rising star, marriage to Elsa Pataky in 2010, first three children born (2011 to 2016, 6 years): ~$1.5M/yr consumed = $9M
- Peak Marvel stardom, Byron Bay estate build and family of five (2017 to 2026, 10 years): ~$3.5M/yr consumed = $35M
Total lifestyle burn: ~$45.05M, roughly 24 percent of post-tax income.
7. Real Estate
Hemsworth’s documented property history includes two flipped Malibu homes and the purpose built Byron Bay estate that is now his primary residence.
- Malibu home purchased from fellow Australian actor Paul Hogan in 2013 for $4.8M, sold in 2016 for $7M: a documented gain of $2.2M
- Second Malibu home purchased in March 2016 for $3.45M, sold in January 2021 for $4.25M: a documented gain of $0.8M
- Byron Bay estate, land purchased in 2014 for $7M with an estimated $15M to $18M spent on construction, now valued at approximately $30M: against a combined cost basis of roughly $23.5M, a documented gain of $6.5M
Real estate appreciation: $9.5M.
8. Wealth Management
No dedicated investment manager, fund, or disciplined portfolio program has been publicly documented for Hemsworth beyond his direct operating stake in Centr, which is already counted as held business equity above.
Wealth Management: None reported ($0).

Why Our Figure Differs From Widely Circulated Estimates
The commonly cited figure for Hemsworth’s net worth is $130M, a number that has stayed largely static across competitor sites for several years even as his career has kept generating new income. Our calculation lands meaningfully higher, at $215M, and the gap traces almost entirely to two held business assets: the Centr sale and his Wild State production company.
Most public estimates mention Centr only in passing, as a fitness app Hemsworth founded, without pricing his actual retained stake. But the 2022 HighPost Capital transaction is a real, reported deal with a disclosed combined valuation of more than $200M, and Hemsworth is confirmed by the acquirer’s own announcement as the second largest shareholder in the merged company. Treating that confirmed equity position at even a conservative 15 percent share adds $30M that most competitor figures leave out entirely. His Wild State production company, which most competitor write-ups do not mention as a financial asset at all, adds a further estimated $30M based on comparable production shingle valuations. Combined with a fuller accounting of his decade of Forbes-tracked Marvel paydays and two documented Malibu property flips, that is enough to move the final number well past the stale $130M consensus.
From Home and Away to a Fitness Empire
Chris Hemsworth’s fortune tells an unusual story for an actor of his generation, because the biggest single asset on his balance sheet is not a film paycheck at all. It is the equity stake he kept when he sold his fitness app rather than walking away with a lump sum, a bet that his own brand could keep compounding after Thor’s hammer eventually gets put down for good.
